A foundational basis of Christianity is provided by an audio class titled “New Life in Christ (NLIC).” Starting with the basics of understanding the Bible it proceeds through understanding spiritual truth relevant for Christians today in all places and circumstances. Class sizes often exceed 60 students and require audio equipment along with solar charging equipment as the villages generally lack electrical service. LiveCharis provides funds to vetted district senior leaders to purchase and deliver the equipment and Bibles to class locations. Classes are conducted by local pastors trained in presenting the material.
A group of 48 women from Pastor John Kiuka’s church came together to learn about Christianity and learn how to grow crops for food and income. They named themselves Women With Vision and certified their group through the Uganda government. The district agriculture department provided education and advice regarding best practice for growing food crops including seed selection, soil testing, fertilization, and pest control. LiveCharis helped supply funds to rent the land, plough the fields, plus purchase seeds, pesticides and tools. The crops are now planted and the ladies are tending the 4 acres of fields and attending the “New Life in Christ” class.
Local Pastor John Kiuka conducts a “tailoring” school in eastern Uganda that teaches students how to sew garments. The students are typically very poor with little or no income. They start with no relevant skill or knowledge but through hands-on qualified instruction and practice are able to produce sellable garments by the time they finish the eleven-month curriculum. Graduates often find employment that utilize their skills while others go into business for themselves. During lunch break Christian education is made available on a optional basis and it has become very popular.
LiveCharis has supported pastors and Christian leaders who are attempting to make positive changes within their communities through Christian fellowships and teachings, in addition to the New Life in Christ class. These activities include men’s and women’s support groups, pastor training, interpersonal, counseling (marriage, drug, substance abuse, etc.), radio program outreach, youth fellowships and prison outreach. Peoples’ lives are being changed by their efforts and LiveCharis is thankful to be able to support them.
